Shiprock or Tsé Bit’a’í (“The Rock with Wings”) rises almost 1,600 feet in Four Corners region of New Mexico. This jagged peak is one of the Navajo Nation’s most important landmarks, with deep historic and spiritual significance to its people. It is the former throat of a volcano that was exposed after millennia of erosion. A banded pattern of sharply etched mountain motifs honors this stunning formation. Shiprock was dedicated as a National Natural Landmark in 1975.
