The pattern itself is a traditional nine-element design, rooted in the art of Native American pueblo dwellers of the Southwest. These historic dwellings, often covered in adobe, were embellished with the same angular, geometric motifs seen here: diamonds, arrows, and stepped, zigzag lines.
The crosses represent the four directions, while the zigzags echo the silhouettes of lightning and mountain peaks. More than just a blanket, it's a piece of woven history.
